Whiteout 2018 was a 24 hour middle school overnight retreat for 6th-8th graders. We spread word to all of the Pittsburgh area churches, and held it at the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North Hills. 16 kids attended, split evenly 8 girls and 8 boys, from North Hills, Grace, Providence, Covenant Fellowship, and Rose Point RP congregations, as well as 3 kids from a neighboring non-denominational church.
Mary Burgreen, Arianna Carleton, Evan Mee, and Andrew Lamay were our 4 college counselors. Timothy Hamilton, a deacon at Providence, gave three talks on the spiritual and earthly presence, attributes, and experiences of Christ.
The kids were sent on a photo scavenger hunt immediately after the welcome Friday night. Following Tim’s first session, we played a game of Perimeter throughout the entire building. Afterwards, we celebrated Nathan Degraaf’s birthday with cookie cake and ice cream. Saturday’s schedule consisted of breakfast, two more sessions, biblically themed escape rooms, and a massive Nerf War in the sanctuary. It was so much fun!
The kids were attentive during the sessions and enthusiastic about the activities. The weekend was casual and easy going, especially because there were not too many kids.
We plan to host Whiteout again next year and would LOVE to see our kids return and more youth come to the 2019 retreat. Thank you for the support, prayers, and sending your children to this!
