Let Them Live (an outreach ministry under the oversight of Cookstown RPC) held its second public rally last Saturday, 11th May, outside Belfast City Hall. On a bright and sunny afternoon, supporters came to offer leaflets to passers-by, to engage in discussion on the sanctity of life, and to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A petition of support for Northern Ireland’s abortion laws, which already safeguard a woman’s health whilst also protecting the lives of the unborn, was signed by over 140 people during the two-hour rally!
Let Them Live is a pro-life campaign group created by evangelical Christians. The group’s stated aim is to “engage effectively in the abortion debate by proclaiming the gospel”.
During the course of the rally, several pastors preached from Scripture, and Rachaela Johnston, a spokeswoman for Let Them Live, described the virtues of Northern Ireland’s current pro-life law. Men, women, boys and girls of all ages were standing behind those who spoke, holding placards and having conversations with those who passed by.
Northern Ireland remains the only part of the United Kingdom where abortion is virtually illegal. The aim of Let Them Live is ultimately to see similar pro-life legislation passed in Britain and in the Republic of Ireland, a move which, the group says, would respect the teaching of the Bible and also recognise the clear scientific evidence that life begins at conception.
