This past CY retreat was held at Camp Curry located in Winchester, Kansas. About seventy-five people attended this retreat. Stephen Mulder was our speaker. He gave us four lectures on the topic of Presbyterianism, specifically pertaining to a Biblical church government. The main Scripture passages that he focused on were from Acts 14 and 15.
The first lecture addressed the Mediatorial Kingship of Christ. The second focused on the qualifications, function, and necessity of elders within a church. Next, we heard how elders should be held accountable. Lastly, we heard how elders are to diligently defend the purity of the church and be willing to engage in conflict. That Lord’s Day morning, we sat under the preaching of Winchester’s pastor, Kyle Borg. He read the Acts 11:19-30 passage and spoke on what carrying the Christian name really means. He summarized it with four key attributes: determined, dependent, distinct, and devoted. We then enjoyed a fellowship lunch with each other, and some of us got to stay to end the retreat with a psalm sing.
I would encourage you to find covenant youth in your own church and ask them any other questions you have. I’m sure they would love to discuss it with you, and it would be a good encouragement for both of you. Praise be to God for the growth of youth within our presbytery!
