This year, 2023, marks one hundred years since the rebuilding of the current RP meeting house in Bready, so three of our former pastors were invited to speak at our special church weekend on the topic of ‘Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever’, taking Hebrews 13:8 as the theme text for the weekend.

Rev. Samuel Mc Collum (pastor in Bready from 1990-2004) started off the weekend on Friday, 3rd November, speaking on the ‘yesterday’ part of the verse from Isaiah ch. 40. ‘Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength’ (v.31). This was followed by supper in the church hall.

Saturday morning began with coffee and scones at 10am, followed by Rev. Blair McFarland (2007-2019) speaking on the ‘today’ part of the verse and emphasizing the offices of Jesus Christ, as prophet, priest and king.

The congregation gathered for a takeaway meal in the church hall at 6.30 on Saturday evening, followed by a quiz and challenge evening enjoyed by all age groups. This was very well prepared by Paul and Heidi Wallace.

Rev. Malcolm Ball (1977-1986) conducted worship on Sabbath morning on the ‘forever’ part of the verse. John 11:25,’ Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.’ We were thankful that Malcolm was also able to conduct the evening service.

We were delighted that Mrs Helen McCollum was able to come along with Samuel on the Friday evening, and Mrs Claire McFarland with Blair on the Saturday. We were also delighted that Malcolm and Muriel Ball were able to stay in the Manse for the whole weekend and, as a congregation, we thank our current minister Paul and his wife Elaine for their hospitality.

We give thanks to God for his provision over the years; we pray that as people gather in the building, many will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
