Continuing a long-established tradition, the Lisbon (New York) Reformed Presbyterian Church and Grace Presbyterian Church (OPC) held a joint Vacation Bible School June 28th-30th, 2023. Our VBS theme was “The King is Coming.” It was Grace Presbyterian Church’s turn to host the program, so many volunteers worked hard to transform their sanctuary into the castle and grounds of “Covenant Kingdom.” Each day began with singing and a skit performed by “Prince Alexander” and “Joey”, puppets that have been carefully preserved from earlier VBS programs with the same curriculum. We wondered how children used to cell phones and computers would respond to such low-tech entertainment. They were riveted!
About 60 children attended VBS this year, with a higher proportion of new children than in recent years.
Four age-based classes rotated through four activity stations: recreation, Bible lessons and scripture memory, crafts and snacks. The morning ended with another assembly for more singing and another puppet skit.
On Friday, parents and friends were invited to our closing program, where the children reviewed the lessons, songs and verses that they had learned, and to share a picnic lunch with their children and all the VBS staff. Both events were well attended.
