In November the Airdrie RP Church started a Drop In Cafe to run during the winter months on Monday evenings from 5.30-8.30pm. We wanted to help our neighbours who are struggling with the cost of living crisis by offering a warm, safe place to come into for some food or just an opportunity to sit and chat with a cup of tea or coffee. At the end of each evening there is an optional Bible study for 30 minutes.

We had a banner made for the front of the church, distributed flyers to the houses around the church and posted flyers in shops, and we shared about it on social media. Our MSP, MP, and local councillor also shared about it on their social media.

Folks from the congregation signed up to help with setting up, cooking, chatting to folks, and cleaning up afterwards. The first week no one showed up, but after that we’ve had from 2-8 people come in each week, with a total of 12 visitors so far, with some coming every week.

One lady stayed for the Bible study and came along to worship the following Sunday. One mum brought her son to Kids Club after coming to the drop in.
These may not seem like huge numbers, but we are nonetheless encouraged to have this opportunity to get to know our neighbours and speak about Christ to them.
