Record Attendance!

Another spectacular Midwest Covenanter Youth Retreat is in the books! Springs RPC and Tri-Lakes Reformed Church co-hosted the most recent retreat (July 9th-11th) in Colorado Springs (Colorado, USA).

This retreat welcomed young people from Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and even Canada! A total of 96 people gathered together–more than at any other event since March 2020.

“Prophet, Priest, and King”

Pastor Joseph Friedly of Tri-Lakes RPC spoke on the topic of “Prophet, Priest, and King.”   He opened the retreat with a discussion on the spiritual needs of ourselves, the church, the world and how those ideas could be grouped into categories of heart, mind, and will.

It set the stage for the weekend and the following 3 lectures encouraged us to consider ignorance of our sin, real treasure, the intercession of Christ as our Priest, and guilt caused by sin. All of these ideas reminded us of the many roles our Savior plays in our daily lives, pointing us toward the Second Coming. Pastor Friedly’s thought-provoking discussion questions led even our chaperones to group together to discuss the material.

Hospitality and Fellowship

For this retreat we were so blessed to have two church congregations filled with generous people who were excited to open their homes to us for lodging, a meal, and snacks. We are continually encouraged and blessed by how God places compassionate believers in these communities and by their eagerness to get to know and support us.

Outside of lectures, we were able to hike at nearby trails, folk dance in a park and play capture the flag. Other activities included a campfire with campfire songs and Psalms, card games, volleyball, and fellowship. We enjoyed spending time with each other and members of the congregations.

Looking Ahead

The next retreat is planned for September 11th and 12th at Camp Curry (Winchester, KS). Pastor Bruce Parnell (Stillwater, OK) has agreed to speak on “The Biblical Doctrine of Creation.” We are especially excited about this, considering the events of the most recent RPCNA Synod meeting.

Jessamyn (Jessa) Keller is a sophomore pre-nursing student at Washburn University. She serves as CY secretary, loves softball and listening to music, and spending time with her family.
