The Midwest Covenanter Youth (CY) held another successful retreat in Quinter, Kansas (USA) April 9th-11th, 2021! Retired pastor and home missionary, Rev. Bob Hemphill (Laramie, Wyoming) spoke on the “Growth of Christ’s Church” and how we can contribute to that growth, both individually and in our churches. We were taught principles of evangelism, discipleship, church growth, and church multiplication.
Fun, Fellowship, and Food
Between lectures, we engaged in fruitful discussion groups, played games (including gaga ball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and various card games), sang Psalms, and enjoyed the lake. After a year of not being able to meet, the fellowship we experienced at the winter and spring retreats was especially welcome.
RPCNA’s Midwest Presbytery spans seven different states. We usually meet four times a year in parts of the Midwest and are hosted by our wonderful host congregations, who feed us and house us as needed. This has, of course, been more difficult with the pandemic.
Attendees of this year’s spring retreat came from Texas, Colorado, Iowa, and Kansas. We stayed at Lakeview Christian Camp located in central Kansas. The owner cooked delicious meals for us–all 71 of us!
One of the blessings of these retreats is the diversity among our members. Besides varying home states, attendees range in age from 14 to 24. Together, we discuss lectures, pray, worship, and just hang out.
God has done amazing work in our lives, and we pray that He will continue to do so. We pray that the time between retreats would be times not of stagnation but of faith and spiritual growth. May we use these times to seek out accountability and apply what we learned during the retreat in our daily lives and home congregations.
We ask for prayers for the upcoming election of officers to lead the CY, that they would use this experience for His glory and it would prepare them to become future leaders within our church.
!We are already anticipating our 2021 summer retreat in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We pray that God will bless this time and use it to show us how to live for His glory!
