The Elkins Park congregation stands as a monument of encouragement for declining congregations. In 1998 the congregation was disorganized after 148 years because there were no resident elders or pastor. In 2001 it was reorganized around 3 young ruling elders, and in 2002 one of those elders was called to serve as pastor. The congregation now has 52 members, having just transferred three out-of-bounds young adults to other congregations. We thank God for his kindness and faithfulness to us.
Elkins Park Church is two miles north of Philadelphia, in the inner rim suburb of Abington, Pennsylvania. The surrounding area is very diverse, with notable Jewish, Korean, and Eastern Orthodox assemblies nearby, in addition to the customary American mixture of Protestant and Roman Catholic churches. Four miles west sits Westminster Theological Seminary and the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. We have had a number of students at these two schools attend Elkins Park while they received their education nearby.
Last year we celebrated our first Cameroonian RP wedding. Church member Roland Anye married Leonie Tanyi on a beautiful late summer day. God has been bringing people from different continents into the fellowship and we rejoice in this foretaste of heaven.
If you are ever in the Philadelphia area, look us up. Our website is elkinsparkchurch.com.
